166 HEALTH TRAJECTORIES OF FRAIL, OLDER PEOPLE WHILE COCOONING DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract Background Cocooning, i.e. staying at home and reducing interaction with others, was a key part of the strategy to protect older people during COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, there are concerns this has had negative impact on physical mental wellbeing those who have been isolated. Methods We completed survey 150 patients (55% female, mean age 79.8 years, average Clinical Frailty Scale 4.8) attending ambulatory medical services in large university hospital. Questions were focused on: access healthcare services, health, attitudes restrictions. Results Almost 40% reported that their health ‘worse’ or ‘much worse’ while cocooning, over decline health. Over 57% scheduled healthcare-related visit cancelled most frequently hospital outpatient appointments. Worryingly, almost 1/6 not seeking attention for an illness they would usually. Of these, half did as worried about catching COVID 46% service currently available them. Conclusion The pandemic lack essential both social, devastating people. This is evident acute presentations longer-term it function. It important future clear policies place enable care when need it.
